Judi, zviri i beštimje', Gibonni's fifth studio album, released in 1999, 25 years later, got its long-awaited vinyl release.
The album, which in many ways marked a turning point in Gibonni's career, gave birth to a whole series of successful songs such as 'I'm doing the right thing', 'Divji cvit', 'Projdi vilo', 'I ja ču budan sanjati' (duet with Vanna), 'Sollenje air i spilled ink', and the title 'Judi, zviri i beštimje', which, even a quarter of a century later, not only endure and have become part of the anthology songbook of local music, but year after year they conquer new generations of audiences. Vlatko Stefanovski played the guitar on as many as eight songs, who, like Nikša Bratoš, will become Giboni's regular collaborator from this release, and the Cambi klapa sang an a capella version of the song 'Projdi vilo'.
'Judi, zviri i beštimje' was my first album for the then young independent label Dallas Records. It was also a year for new beginnings. The first album I worked on entirely with Nikša Bratoš as producer and Ozren Kanceljak as manager. There was a lot of enthusiasm among the collaborators, and I too was floating in the fertile water of unexpected inspiration. I remember writing in the mood as if it was my debut album and as if none of that had happened before, without the ballast of past work. I measure the track of the album by how many songs remain alive when the dust and gunpowder disperse, how much you can identify with that story as if it were today, not in the last century,' said Gibonni.
'Judi, zviri i beštimje' won a then-record 7 Porin awards, including those for album of the year, best pop music album, song and hit of the year (I'm doing the right thing), best arrangement (Divji cvit), recording and best producer (Nikša Brother).
The album was sold in a diamond print run of over 60,000 copies, making it one of the most successful domestic albums in the past quarter of a century.
On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the release, the album was released in a remastered version in a limited first edition on transparent vinyl with an effect.
